Neuropsychological Counselling

Neuropsychological counselling is intended for people who are seeking orientation and professional guidance after neurological illness, injury or other brain-related changes. Family members, legal guardians, close contacts or involved professionals may also take part in the counselling process where this is helpful for understanding the current situation and planning the next steps.

The focus may include questions relating to attention, memory, concentration, perception, language, planning and organisation, behaviour, resilience and emotional regulation. Counselling can help to better understand changes, place existing abilities in context and develop practical strategies for managing new everyday demands.

At the practice in Meldorf, neuropsychological concerns are considered in a structured, understandable and individual manner. Existing findings, medical letters, hospital records, reports, radiological documents and observations from everyday life can be included. The aim is to make connections easier to understand, organise open questions and clarify practical next steps for daily life, family members or further support.

Counselling may take place together with the affected person, with a legal guardian, with family members or with other close contacts. Depending on the individual situation, a consultation may also take place solely with the legal guardian, family members or other involved persons.

For an initial professional assessment, it is helpful to know which brain-related event or neurological change has occurred within the past five years. This may include, for example, stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebral haemorrhage, inflammation, surgery, tumour-related conditions, oxygen deprivation, epileptic events or other neurological changes.

For an in-person initial consultation, please bring the following documents where available:

  • diagnostic documentation
  • medical letters
  • discharge summaries from hospital, rehabilitation or clinic stays
  • medical and neuropsychological findings
  • radiological findings or reports, for example MRI or CT reports
  • reports from outpatient treatment, therapy, rehabilitation or care services
  • a current medication plan
  • available documentation relating to legal guardianship or power of attorney, where relevant to the consultation
  • personal notes on changes, observations or specific questions arising in everyday life

For video consultations, these documents may be sent to the practice in advance by email or fax.

Neuropsychological counselling can take place in person at the practice in Meldorf or online by video consultation. Appointments are available in German and English and may also be arranged internationally.

This service is professional counselling and does not constitute treatment or a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment. However, it may help to better understand the current situation, organise uncertainties, identify possible sources of support and make everyday challenges more manageable.

Fees and organisational details are discussed transparently before the consultation. Billing is based on the GOP tariff.
